Lihnida Krstanoska-Blazeska is a multidisciplinary Australian-Macedonian artist whose practice explores themes of memory, mythology, culture and identity. Lihnida holds a Master of Fine Art (Ceramics) from the National Art School and a Bachelor of Design from UNSW Art and Design (2019).
Lihnida uses a combination of mediums within her practice, primarily working with ceramics and textiles to explore the preservation of her culture through an unsettling reinvention of fantastical figures and their stories.
In 2024, Lihnida had her first solo exhibition at Gaffa Gallery in Sydney, after being the chosen recipient of their Summer Residency program (2023/24). She received the Highly Commended Award at Gosford Regional Gallery (2024) and was a finalist in their Emerging Artist Prize (2023). She has had work exhibited for the North Queensland Ceramic Awards at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery (2022), and has also had works featured in the Stan exclusive Australian TV show Bump (2023).
Currently, Lihnida works as a ceramic tutor at Clay Sydney.
My work is immersed in the visual language of children’s stories and the figures and characters associated within these narratives. I explore the characteristics that can simultaneously make these creatures so endearing and engaging, yet also unnatural and unsettling. Alongside these current narratives, I also investigate Macedonian folklore and mythology to honour my lineage and gain a deeper understanding into the traditions and narratives of my cultural history and context.
